Miyakojima Kids Net

The Miyakojima (Miyako Island) Project was created to improve the lifestyle of people living on small islands. Our mission is to find different solutions that can improve conditions in the environment and maintain the island's natural resources.

Miyako Island Kids Net was created in hopes to provide ideas and information about issues that small islands are facing. Not only should adults think about this issue, children can also begin to look at problems of small islands and look for their own unique solutions.

Miyakojima Kids Net Updates
To keep track of the arrival situation of tsunami-related debris at the Pacific Northwest for the next three to four years, we prepared a new cluster site exclusively for Japan Tsunami Debris.

Comprehensive and most updated information can be seen by visiting NOAA's Japan Tsunami Debris: Information and FAQs.

This new map shows the general arears where tress or plants are located on the island. Using the "Remote Snensing Extraction System", we can see just how little vegetation there are compared to developed areas. Please click the image for more detail. Miyako Island Vegetation Map

The marine debris cleanup and research program "Priority Number One" is one of our recent activities to further spread our information and allow for more children to participate in this cause. Marine Debris Program
